The Wales Women’s Under-19s cricket team have recently returned from a successful competition in Dubai, flying the flag for Welsh Cricket.
The 14-strong squad, coached by former Glamorgan all rounder John Derrick, returned from the Middle East having finished fourth in the eight-team Women’s Arch Trophy.
Wales completed memorable victories over Lancashire and Scotland and since returning from Dubai batsman Gwenan Davies has been selected for the England Women’s Development Programme U19 squad on the back of her performances.
Gwenan and the team’s displays in Dubai were boosted by the sponsorship they received from one of Swansea’s leading law firms, Peter Lynn and Partners.
The Swansea firm sponsored the Wales Under-19s training tops in Dubai.
Peter, a handy cricketer himself, is passionate about supporting and nurturing local Welsh sporting talent.
“I still play cricket for a local team and also coach a junior team in the community and I believe in doing whatever I can to support a team like the Welsh Women’s Under-19 team. I was delighted to see how competitive they were in Dubai,” he said.
And Derrick, the ex-Glamorgan director of cricket, says the support of business sponsorship from the likes of Peter Lynn and Partners is vital for nurturing the success of Welsh cricket.
“We are very grateful to Peter Lynn and Partners because financial support and backing like this goes a long way to helping us be successful. In fact help like this is essential,” said John.
“Peter is a cricket player and supporter himself so he is well aware of what is needed to go to be able to go to events like Dubai and be successful.”
