Jonathan is a Partner in the Commercial Litigation team and has extensive experience advising clients across a broad range of complex commercial disputes. He acts for clients across a variety of sectors, providing clear, strategic and commercially focused advice at every stage of a dispute.
Jonathan’s practice includes sports law, intellectual property disputes, shareholder and director disputes, insolvency matters, fraud, defamation and breach of contract claims. He is particularly focused on understanding the wider commercial, reputational and personal impact that disputes can have on clients, and works from the outset to resolve matters efficiently while protecting his clients’ broader interests.
Jonathan has acted for a wide range of clients, from multinational corporations to individual athletes, including in high-value and high-stakes litigation. His experience includes international arbitrations for a Middle East-based oil and gas corporation.
Commercial Litigation
Jonathan advises clients on a wide range of commercial disputes, including breach of contract claims, fraud, defamation and complex business disputes. He has particular experience in the automotive sector, acting for several claimants in claims against some of Europe’s largest vehicle manufacturers and the world’s largest Tier 1 electric vehicle manufacturer.
Sports Law
Jonathan advises athletes, sports clubs, organisations and governing bodies, from grassroots to elite level, on contract negotiations, sponsorship agreements, disciplinary matters and dispute resolution. He provides advice in line with relevant regulations, governance requirements and industry standards.
Jonathan also acts as Legal Director for Basketball Wales, advising on the Home Nations unification project and partnerships with the British Basketball League. He has also advised on agreements involving the NBA and Jr. NBA programme across the Home Nations.
Intellectual Property
Jonathan handles disputes involving trademarks, copyright, patents, trade secrets and confidential information. He has a strong understanding of intellectual property enforcement and brand protection. His experience includes acting in proceedings to protect a client’s trademark against large-scale counterfeit production of infringing goods, successfully securing the cessation of the operation together with damages and a costs order.
Shareholder and Director Disputes
Jonathan assists clients with disputes arising from corporate governance issues, breaches of fiduciary duty, shareholder disagreements and disputes concerning control, ownership and management of companies. He provides practical advice aimed at protecting both the client’s legal position and wider commercial interests.
Insolvency and Debt Recovery
Jonathan represents creditors, debtors, trustees and other stakeholders in insolvency-related matters, including bankruptcy proceedings, restructuring issues, liquidation disputes and debt recovery claims. He is regularly instructed to defend claims brought by HMRC enforcement teams and has successfully obtained orders preventing the advertisement of petitions on behalf of clients.
